Bell vs Vidéotron vs Telus: the real comparison in Quebec
2026-10-12
The network is almost a non-argument
In Quebec, Bell and Telus share their cell towers: coverage between the two is virtually identical, in cities and rural areas alike. Vidéotron runs on its own network in the province and roams on Rogers elsewhere — very solid in Quebec's urban areas, slightly less consistent in remote regions.
Verdict: unless you spend your life in remote areas, coverage shouldn't decide for you. Price and service will.
On pricing: same family, same price
The three flagship-brand plans look alike: typically $50-75/month for 50-100 GB on BYOD. Real differences are $5-10 per month — rarely enough to justify paying full price.
The trick: each giant runs a discount brand on the SAME network — Public Mobile/Lucky (Telus/Bell), Virgin Plus (Bell), Koodo (Telus), Fizz (Vidéotron) and Fido (Rogers). At equal coverage, those plans cost $25-45/month. That's where the real comparison happens.
On internet: cable vs fibre
Bell and Telus bet on fibre (FTTH) with symmetrical speeds — 1.5 to 3 Gbit/s up and down. Vidéotron uses cable: up to ~1 Gbit/s download, but upload tops out around 50-100 Mbps.
For streaming and browsing: no noticeable difference. For heavy remote work (large files, constant video calls, content creators): Bell or Telus fibre wins clearly. Watch out for time-limited promos too — cable sticker prices often double after 24 months.
The real winner depends on your usage
Cell plan only: a discount brand (Fizz, Koodo, Virgin) almost always beats the three giants. Internet + mobile together: Vidéotron's bundle discounts can become attractive — calculate the total, not just the advertised rebate.
